How to use

Use on clean, completely dry fur. Brush with light pressure and short strokes in the direction of hair growth. Work in sections (back, sides, hindquarters) and stop if the skin becomes red or the fur appears over-brushed.

Tips for short-haired dogs:
1-2 times a week during shedding periods, otherwise as needed. Maintain very light pressure – short-haired fur often requires shorter sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Undercoat deShedding Tool be used on all pets?

The Undercoat deShedding Tool can be used on most shedding animals, including dogs, cats, and other pets with an undercoat. It should not be used on non-shedding breeds or on animals with particularly sensitive skin. Use our breed lists to find out if a FURminator Undercoat deShedding Tool is suitable for your pet. Our dog breed list and cat breed list are designed to help you!

How often and for how long should I use the FURminator® Undercoat deShedding Tool?

For best results, use the FURminator® Undercoat deShedding Tool 1–2 times a week for 10 to 20 minutes per session. The actual time will vary depending on your pet’s breed, coat condition, and coat thickness. During periods of heavy shedding, it may be necessary to use the Undercoat deShedding Tool more frequently. FURminator grooming edges are designed to make grooming faster and easier, while the Skin Guard® design allows the tool to glide easily over most pets' skin.

Where should I groom?

The Undercoat deShedding Tool removes large amounts of loose hair and undercoat, so it's most practical to choose a location that is easy to clean – for example, an indoor tiled floor or an outdoor area. However, the most important thing is always to choose a place where your pet feels comfortable and safe.

How do I care for my Undercoat deShedding Tool?
  • Brush your pet before using the Undercoat deShedding Tool to remove any tangles and knots. Using the tool on matted fur can bend or break the teeth, and may also be uncomfortable for your pet.
  • Make sure you do not drop or place the Undercoat deShedding Tool somewhere where it can fall, as this can damage the tool's teeth.
  • The deShedding edge can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap if necessary. Cleaning can reduce the feeling of a dull edge by removing dander and dirt that accumulates on the teeth. Dry the Undercoat deShedding Tool completely before putting it away.
  • The FURminator® Undercoat deShedding Tool has an Edge Guard around the deShedding edge, so the tool does not need a protective cover for storage. Simply press down the FURejector® button and pull towards you to lock the Edge Guard in place, protecting the deShedding edge.
